Okay, so I'm in Illinois, staying with my mother's friends and her daughters, and one has offered to burn a CD for me. With any song on it. It's not often that I get this chance, as I don't have the greatest computer or mp3 player. (Usually I'm bound to whatever the radio dj wants me to hear...)
I have my own ideas, but I'm inviting all of you to suggest songs... things you'll think I'll like, that you want me to hear, some indie band that you want to turn me into a fan of, etc. I'm open to any and all genres, I'll take any suggestion without question.
When it's done, it'll be like, the official music for the Syndicate. We can call it the "Clock Wonk" or something.
Also, an opportunity to learn about everyone's musical tastes (thus sparking more conversation which = board activity...)

Got my attention with that "board activity" part.
My lawyer advises me to suggest Can You Refrain by Joy Electric. Joy's my favorite artist, and Can You Refrain is my favorite Joy song. Of course, that doesn't necessarily make it my favorite song, but it probably is anyway. Joy Electric has a very unique, indescribable style, and brilliant lyrics to boot. Song for All Time, The Works of Unknowns, and Quite Quieter Than Spiders are also among my favorite Joy Electric tunes. Although they all carry the artist's distinctive qualities, each is, ultimately, also very unique.
You can't go wrong with Freezepop. An indie synthpop band, Freezepop's upbeat sounds are an excellent change of pace, and their Liz Enthusiasm is an amazing vocalist. Bike Thief and Stakeout are an amazing pair of poppy songs, while Robotron 2000 is a good example of a more electronica-inspired track. For the sake of appeasing TuffGhost, I should probably mention Plastic Stars as well, a slower, romantic song.
I'll also toss out some electroclash suggestions. Ladytron's Destroy Everything You Touch, I Am the World Trade Center's Silent Film Stars, and The Faint's Southern Belles in London Sing are excellent choices.
If trance is the name of the game, Diving by 4 Strings, Wherever You Are (I Feel Love) by Laava, and Castles in the Sky by Ian Van Dahl are all outstanding classics. Trance is my favorite genre by far, but there aren't many artists who, in my opinion, stand out against the rest. If you don't mind the lyrics being a bit on the boring side, Lasgo is an excellent bet, particularly their Something and Surrender tracks. <3 Evi Goffin's voice. Unfortunately, the one Lasgo song with memorable lyrics, I Wonder, gets old after a while. Still, it might be worth the download.
I suppose that's more than enough suggestions for now. Maybe I'll add some more later.
If I had to choose one song from the recommendations above, it would have to be Can You Refrain. (I can't wait to look back and read this thread a year or two from now!)

Ah, how did I know that you'd be the first two to reply? I think I'll add some tool songs since someone had their own thread about that... anyone else?

Okay, Cara was able to get a good portion of these songs onto the CD, although she couldn't find anything by Joy Electric, The Starlight Mints, All Time Quarterback, or Moonraker. And all the songs are out of order, so I never have any clue what song by what band I am listening to. Still, it doesn't mean another one cannot be made with more perfection... thanks for the many suggestions.

i love making mixes and stuff, and i love putting them in an order, it's just what I do!
this is if you're making a 10 song mix. start the album off with "You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel like A Millionaire" by Queens of the Stone Age. If you heard the song, you'd know why. Second song, "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by Daft Punk, cause i just love the song. Next, do "Universally Magnetic" by Mos Def, than do "Lost in a Contraption" by CKY. mixes can't survive without Mos Def or CKY on it. do something in the middle like an instrumental that you like, I would do Maggot Brain by Funkadelic or Behind the Screams by CKY. This is the point in the album where you make it the slow or sad songs. I would start off with The Warmth by Incubus. it's gotta sad feel to it, not too soft, not too hard. than do life goes on by tupac. that should make someone cry. than do Everlong, the acoustic version by Foo Fighters. I don't know if it would work on anyone else, but the song is personal to me. than Hurt by Nine Inch Nails, self explanitory. "Change" by Blind Melon is another cool one ot put near the end. and definitly use "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas as the last track. that'll leave em sobbin mess!!!
ok so I lied, that's eleven tracks.
EDIT: Ok to make it a 12 track even, add "Said the Spider to the Fly" by the Paper Chase. Just cause i love the song haha.
