Blood and Chocolate is one of my favorite books. It's not a stunning piece of literature, but it's not bad. I've read it multiple times and fallen in love with it.
And now it's being made into a movie...?
Not sure how I feel about this. I'll see it regardless, because I'd like to see how this can make for the big gothic drama that it's advertised as. The book is more of a High School romance, that deals with the troubles that can come with interracial/cultural/(species?) relationships, being honest with the ones you love, the ever abused teen girl lesson of "Don't try to change for a guy!!!! Be true to yourself!!!!", and sticking with people who can love you for who you are.
Yes, it's about werewolves, but it's far from anything like Underworld or Van Helsing, yet it seems that the people who created those are creating this.
I didn't expect them to stick to the plot very well, while a nice book, it'd never transfer page-by-page to the big screen and suceed. There's one fight scene that's drawn out, even the book, and the next closet piece to action you have is the main character getting drunk, breaking in to her ex-boyfriend's girlfriend's room, ripping up the curtains and passing out on her bed in wolf form.*
According to the website, they've stirred up a whole brand new story, while only keeping the characters; even the werewolf culture has undergone drastic changes (Dare I say that it looks more like Vampire culture now?). It looks to be much more dramatic and action packed, though, and perhaps still dealing with the same issues.
My prediction is that it will be a film along the lines of Queen of the Damned, or Underworld, or Van Helsing, or The Brothers Grimm, that is, completely ridiculous yet with an incredible appeal that will attract many viewers to it anyway, who will all buy the DVDs, list it on their Facebook profiles as favorite movies, and have avatars featuring the characters for many months to come. I have no problem with this. In fact, I'm looking forward to it. Maybe the book sales will go up, though it was already a bestseller.
Here's the website for ya'... http://www.mydarkestsecrets.com/
*She wakes up before the girl comes back, and then leaves. Nothing happens.
