A few days ago, I registered my copy of Game Maker 6 for $20 (the regular version of the program is free). I am quite impressed by the added features. The language that GM uses, GML, synergizes very well with C++, which I am presently learning in class, so even though I was programming simple games in Game Maker 3+ years ago, I am only now beginning to learn the program's potential.
The most interesting additions in the registered version are the ability to render graphics in three dimensions and to create games which can be played multiplayer over a network. Fun stuff.
In playing around with the program, I'm coding an RPG battle system now that combines 2D and 3D graphics, much like in Dragon Warrior/Quest VII.
