I really have no idea what to say about this movie. Other than, yes, I really liked it. (OMGWTF???)
Probably not Mr. Shamylan's best work, but not his worst, and while only one character appeared to have any depth at all, the rest were just as like/loveable. Bryce Dallas Howard does an excellent job as the LITW, Paul Giamani does even better with his role.
The wierdest thing about this movie wasn't really the bizarre story, it's the fact that no one ever stopped to think "Hey, isn't it odd that The Little Mermaid is getting chased around on land by a wolf made of grass while awaiting a giant eagle and three evil monkeys made of trees?" but somehow, it still works, and you don't even notice the guy with hypnotic superpowers and the kid who recieves messages from God through cereal boxes.
After all, the story was based after a bedtime story that Shamylan told his children, and it definately has a very innocent, fairy tale-like quality to it that I found rather charming. It even seems to take on the philosophy of Peter Pan; if you believe in faeries, then they are real, and all of the characters are ready and almost desperate to believe in Story and the world she comes from.
